MIM Enterprise Copper Mine
MIM decided to develop its Enterprise copper mine deep under its existing operations. Careful planning was vital to minimize disruption to ore production and haulage.
This would be Australia's deepest mine. Fluor provided engineering, procurement, and construction management to access the ore by sinking an internal shaft that connected with an existing shaft, which then reached 1,900 meters into the earth.
Ore production from Enterprise was expected to reach 3.5 million tons per year. The ore would feed the Mount Isa copper smelter for a decade or more.
Fluor called on its worldwide resources and experience to design the backfill plant at Enterprise. Production began in 2000.
