Fluor is a managing partner of the concession autobahnplus A8 GmbH (a+) that was responsible for the design, construction and financing of the $338 million A8 Autobahn improvements between Augsburg and Munich, Germany. The concession will also be responsible for the operations and maintenance of the autobahn until 2037. This project was the first public-private partnership road contract to be awarded in Germany. The scope of the design-build phase included the widening of 38 kilometers (23.6 miles) of A8 from two to three lanes and the addition of an emergency lane in each direction. Construction included the replacement of a large number of existing bridges and interchanges, construction of 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) of noise screens, landscaping and construction of three park-and-rest areas. Construction was completed 42 months after design-build startup, one month ahead of the contract schedule.
