Executive Summary
Fluor performed plant modifications, enhancements and supplemental maintenance services on a continuing basis for Florida Power Corporation's Crystal River #3 nuclear power plant. Our services to the 860 MW pressurized water reactor facility included project management, field engineering, planning, scheduling and cost control, craft supervision and provision of skilled craftsmen.
Client's Challenge
Close coordination and detailed work planning and scheduling was required to reduce personnel exposure to radiation and to assure individual integrity was maintained so that plant safety was not compromised. Major emphasis was placed on maximum utilization of micro-computerized project control systems to assure strict budget and schedule adherence and the effective use of available resources.
Fluor's Solution
Fluor provided supervision and craft personnel in electrical, piping, instrumentation, structural and civil disciplines to work under the demanding requirements of an operating nuclear plant. We maintained a permanent staff of varying size on site to perform pre-outage planning, scheduling and estimating and to prepare detailed work packages for scheduled modifications. Quick response support was readily available from this group in the event of a forced outage. During a major 20-week outage for refueling and modification, our craft level peaked at over 800 on a two-shift basis.
Conclusion
Major modifications performed during the outage included Appendix R, EFIC and remote shutdown.
