Business Segment: Urban Solutions

Executive Summary
Fluor was awarded a bid-build contract for the construction of the Texas Department of Transportation's (TxDOT) Interstate Highway (IH) 20 Frontage Roads project in Dallas County, Texas. The project included the construction of 2.4 miles of new frontage roads and ramps between SH 161/Lake Ridge Parkway and Belt Line Road, intersection reconstruction and reconfiguration, and construction of U-turns and sidewalks.
Each IH 20 frontage road would consist of one to two 12-foot-wide inside travel lanes, one 14-foot-wide outside shared-use lane and one 12-foot-wide auxiliary lane. Portions of the existing eastbound and westbound frontage road between SH 161 and Robinson Road would be removed and reconfigured to align with the new frontage roads.
Client's Challenge
The investment by TxDOT in the improvements of IH 20, a main arterial route in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, was part of the overall development of Dallas County and will continue the area's commercial and industrial development.

Fluor's Solution
Fluor's strategic self-perform platform was formed to execute projects like the IH 20 Frontage Roads, bringing TxDOT a strong partner in the bid-build market and a robust platform to support the state's growing infrastructure needs. The IH 20 Frontage Roads project award allowed us the opportunity to continue development of our construction resources and knowledge of the bid-build market in Texas.

Conclusion
Project construction was scheduled to begin in the winter of 2017, and was planned to take approximately two and a half years to complete. This project utilized Fluor's self-perform construction capabilities and positioned us to support the growing demand for infrastructure development and investment.
