Nuclear Power Plant Engineering & Construction

Fluor has provided engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and maintenance services to the nuclear industry since 1946. In the U.S., we have designed three nuclear power units, constructed eight nuclear power units and supported construction on another ten nuclear units during the 1970s and 1980s. We expanded our services in the 1990s at many of the operating commercial nuclear plants in the United States by providing major capital modification and maintenance services with more than 95 million hours worked.

Our past and ongoing commercial experience includes the maintenance, modification and related operating plant support services for 90 nuclear reactor units. All of this work was performed in accordance with the rigorous requirements of 10CFR50.

A History of Nuclear Innovation

Fluor has extensive experience in nuclear energy dating back to 1946 when we began designing and building facilities for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (today the U.S. Department of Energy). In the 1970’s we added commercial nuclear power plant construction into our portfolio and today we are on the leading edge of the innovation and development of small modular reactor technology.
