David E. Constable

Chairman and
Chief Executive Officer


David Constable was named Chief Executive Officer by Fluor’s Board of Directors in October 2020, and officially assumed the role on January 1, 2021. On February 8, 2022, Fluor announced that David had been appointed by the Board of Directors to succeed Alan Boeckmann, the company’s Executive Chairman, effective May 5, 2022.

David is a versatile executive with significant international experience and a proven track record of driving growth and value creation across multiple industries. He brings more than 41 years of insight to Fluor’s business, strategy and operations, having held various leadership roles within the company from 1982 to 2011. He returned as a Fluor board member in 2019 and chaired the Commercial Strategy and Operational Risk Committee.

David has extensive experience with several multinational firms. He served as CEO of Sasol Ltd., from 2011 through 2016, where he executed a comprehensive change program and implemented a new operating model focused on enhancing growth across the organization. Additionally, he serves as board director of ABB Ltd. since 2015, and is former chairman of the compensation committee, board director of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation from 2016 until the merger with Occidental Petroleum in 2019, and board director of Rio Tinto plc and Rio Tinto Ltd. from 2017 through December 31, 2020. He has four years of private equity experience, having served as senior advisor at Cerberus Capital Management, including due diligence across multiple industries and portfolio operational improvement support.

During his initial time at Fluor, David held roles across the company’s business. As Group President, Operations, he was responsible for the multifunctional entity that served Fluor’s core business groups, including project execution services, engineering, global procurement, construction, industrial relations, project management, information technology and risk management. He also served as Group President for Fluor’s Power business, heading up its activities in the global coal, gas, nuclear and renewable power generation industries. This business was also responsible for emission control betterment, including carbon capture and sequestration technology solutions. Prior to this, he was Group President, Operations & Maintenance, focusing on Fluor’s operational asset productivity improvement business across a wide range of industries. 

He brings an international perspective to Fluor, which has offices in more than 60 countries. David has worked and lived around the globe including Canada, the United States, Chile, Argentina, the Netherlands, China and South Africa.

David graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Engineering and is a registered professional engineer. He is a graduate of Thunderbird University’s International Management Program and Wharton Business School’s Advanced Management Program.
