World demand for phosphate is growing, as phosphate is a key component of most common fertilizers used for crop production.

Mining and processing of phosphate resources present unique challenges. Phosphate-containing rock, or phosphorite, is typically obtained through open-cast mining, and then processed through crushing and beneficiation to final end-products.

The Ma’aden Umm Wu’al Phosphate Project in Saudi Arabia, one of the largest integrated phosphate fertilizer facilities in the world, is a prime example.
