Fluor STEM Community Outreach

Fluor’s Office in the UK Engages the Local Community

As a global services company focused on the design and construction of highly complex capital projects, Fluor recognises stakeholders are critical to success. Stakeholders include Clients, employees, investors, a number of non-governmental organisations and the communities in which we have offices and Client projects.

Fluor is dedicated to building strong communities and having a positive impact on the communities in which we work and live, through Fluor’s projects, philanthropy and employee volunteering. Fluor focuses on community development through education, employee volunteerism and environmental stewardship.

Various Fluor Limited charitable contributions support key activities to promote education and community enhancement. Selected community initiatives during 2015 included:

Materials Engineering Collaboration - Fluor donated a cheque for £12,786 to the Loughborough University Development Trust. This funding will go towards a suite of laboratory equipment in Materials Engineering and related programmes.

Sensory Garden Construction – Fluor Farnborough’s Graduates Advancing to Professionalism group volunteered to create a new sensory garden at a special school in Farnborough. The volunteers built acoustic panels to mitigate the sound produced by various musical instruments located around the new garden.

Employment and Education Support – Fluor donated funds a local organisation that offers various services for homeless youth. Fluor’s donations supported numerous programme participants. The participants received education, employment and training opportunities, and the donations helped minimise the financial difficulties faced by young people.

Dementia Care Homes – Donations to Fluor Farnborough’s Knitting and Crochet club were used by Farnborough employees to create sensory bands delivered to local dementia care homes. The sensory band is a knitted or crocheted pocket that has various attachments. Patients can play with a variety of textures, colours and patterns on a band, which creates a multi-sensory environment and leads to improvement in their cognitive ability.
