Fluor's Excellence in HSE Leadership

Fluor is widely recognized for its commitment to health, safety and the environment (HSE). In 2016, our offices and sites reported 11 external HSE recognitions. Below are some recent certifications and awards Fluor has received for outstanding performance in the areas of HSE.

Dow Jones Sustainability Index

In 2016, Fluor was listed on the North America Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the second consecutive year. Fluor is the only North American construction and engineering company listed and one of only 128 U.S. companies selected.

The honor comes following an in-depth analysis of financial material and economic, environmental and social practices by RobecoSAM's Corporate Sustainability Assessment of 981 companies.

2016 Business Roundtable

Fluor was among 133 companies featured in the 2016 Business Roundtable report, "Create. Grow. Sustain: People and Technology." The report details organization's innovative sustainability strategies globally.

U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Recognition

The DOE VPP promotes safety and health excellence through cooperative efforts among labor, management, and government at DOE contractor sites. More than 15 Fluor projects have received recognition under this program, including the following:

VPP Star of Excellence

DOE recognized six Fluor Hanford projects in Richland, Washington, with the Star of Excellence Award for achieving injury rates at least 75 percent better than the industrial average. In 2016, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions received their 15th DOE Star of Excellence, as well as the VPPPA Safety and Health Achievement Award.

VPP Legacy of Stars

The Fluor Hanford Volpentest HAMMER Training & Education Center received DOE's highest VPP recognition – the Legacy of Stars Award, which is given to sites that have achieved the Star of Excellence rating for three consecutive years.

VPP Superior Star Award

DOE recognized the Fluor Hanford Safeguards & Security Project with the Superior Star Award for achieving injury rates of at least 50 percent better than the industry average.

DOE Safest Laboratory Recognition

Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) in Aiken, S.C., placed as the safety leader in the DOE network of 15 national laboratories.

Engineering News-Record Excellence in Safety

Brunswick County Power Station in Freeman, Virginia, received the Excellence in Safety Best Project Award for the Mid-Atlantic Region from Engineering News Record.

National Safety Council Million Work Hours Award

The National Safety Council recognized the Showa Denko PFC-75 Project, Shire Biologics Facility and Stora Enso Consumer Board Mill with the 2016 Million Work Hours Award.

Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Gold Award

RoSPA recognized Fluor Limited, U.K. with its Occupational Health and Safety Gold Award, which is presented to organizations sustaining high standards of HSE over consecutive years.

LEED Gold Certification

The Eagle P3 Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility was awarded LEED Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council in 2015. The 230,000-square-foot facility's sustainable features were evaluated based on the long-term environmental and fiscal impact benefiting the operation of the facility as well as the local community.

ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems Certification

This International Standards Organization (ISO) standard specifies requirements for an effective environmental management system, addressing environmental policy, organization, planning, performance, and auditing and review. Compliance with the standard is verified with a third-party review, expert panel review, or self-declaration. The standard includes a process for accreditation of procedures, giving the organization formal recognition.
