Diversity and inclusion are woven throughout all of Fluor's processes.  The company uses centralized and decentralized approaches to design and implement its programs and practices. A few examples focused on development include:

Training & Education
Training and continual learning are essential to sustaining Fluor's success. All office and field employees have a variety of avenues for gaining knowledge and improving skills. Diversity and inclusion topics are incorporated into existing professional development courses, embedding key principles into the company's business practices.

In addition to classroom training, Fluor offers an online diversity and inclusion curriculum that is designed to help employees understand how diversity influences day-to-day business operations, how to work effectively within a diverse environment, and how to create a more inclusive culture within the organization. As of 2008, Fluor employees have completed more than 30,000 across 70 locations around the world.

Additionally, Fluor's Global Diversity and Inclusion Resource Center provides a central location on the company's intranet where all employees can access content-rich tools and information. Topics range from the company's diversity and inclusion strategy to training and external resources.

Mentoring Circles Program
Fluor's Mentoring Circles Program gives employees broad exposure to leaders in a team-based setting. Mentors are diversity and inclusion "champions" who help the company foster high levels of employee engagement. While involved in the program, people have opportunities for informal dialogue, mentoring, and learning, both with their mentors and their colleagues.

To date, some 2,000 mentees and 200 mentors in 15 countries have participated. The program continues to expand across the company, and has been recognized by the following organizations:

  • U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission
In 2006, Fluor received the prestigious "Freedom to Compete Award". This award grants national recognition to companies who employ specific practices that produce and reflect commitment to access and inclusion in the workplace.

  • FORTUNE Magazine
Fluor is showcased as a "smart company" in the July 23, 2007, article "The Hidden Workplace."
  • HR Houston's IMPACT Award
In 2008, Fluor's Houston, Texas office received this award for creating significant business value through their Mentoring Circles Program.
  • Best Practices in HR newsletter
This program was featured as a case study in the November 18, 2006 issue.
