Giving

The Fluor Foundation has a long history of investing in communities, nonprofit organizations, and education. Since its inception in 1952, the foundation, along with Fluor Corporation, has contributed more than $145 million to projects around the world. In 2009, Fluor Corporation and the Fluor Foundation contributed a combined total of $6.5 million to community organizations and educational initiatives in 17 countries.

Employees added another $2.7 million in contributions to United Way, health and human services organizations, and universities.

Fluor's giving programs focus on community organizations in those locations around the world where the company has a presence. Fluor achieves its contribution objectives through the Fluor Foundation as well as through corporate giving.

Fluor's total worldwide contributions (corporate and foundation) are determined as a percentage (1-2 percent) of the prior year's earnings before taxes. The 2010 contributions budget totals $6.5 million.

Areas of Focus
Fluor supports organizations in the following four categories:

 • Education

Supporting higher education and investing in programs that develop a diverse and skilled workforce are important goals for Fluor. Almost half of the company's total charitable contributions are directed toward educational endeavors every year.

In the College Relations program, Fluor sponsors annual grants and scholarships at selected universities, with a focus on engineering, construction, and business programs. Through these partnerships, Fluor executive teams interact with the universities to prepare students for tomorrow's global and technical workforce.

In 2009, grants to 14 U.S. universities totaled more than $590,000. Grants to universities in Canada, Chile, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Poland, South Africa, Spain, and the United Kingdom totaled $300,000.

 • Human Services

 • Culture

 • Public/Civic Affairs

Fluor Matching Gifts Program
The Fluor Matching Gifts Program encourages U.S. and Canadian employees to contribute to universities, colleges, technical schools, and scholarships. The Fluor Foundation matches employee contributions dollar-for-dollar, up to $5,000 per year per employee. Since the program was founded in 1963, more than 150 universities and organizations have received almost $10 million in grants from Fluor and its employees.

Employee Giving
Whether in China, the Netherlands, India, the Philippines, or the United States, Fluor employees find ways to contribute to their communities by volunteering their time and talent to raise money. In North America, Fluor supports the United Way Make-A-Difference Program, in which it matches 50 cents for every dollar employees give to the United Way and other health and human services organizations.

For the 2009/10 campaign, Fluor employees pledged more than $2.7 million to the United Way and agencies in the U.S. and Canada. With the addition of Fluor matching funds, totaling $1.6 million, Fluor and its employees support more than 75 United Way agencies and 800 health and human services organizations.

Fluor employees raise funds in many other ways. In Greenville, South Carolina, employees founded the annual Golf for Greenville tournament in 1989. This event has raised nearly $1.6 million to date to assist community organizations.
