Fluor is a pioneer in corporate volunteerism, with its first employee volunteer team, the Fluor Community Involvement Team (FCIT), formed in 1976 in Orange County, California. Today, Fluor employees build on this tradition of giving back to local communities. Globally, Fluor employees volunteer their time in their areas of expertise – providing in-kind engineering services, construction, and renovation for community organizations, or educational outreach.

In 2008, Fluor employees logged more than 43,000 volunteer hours toward 200 team service projects assisting organizations and schools.

Some examples of Fluor employees' volunteer efforts:

Building Futures
The Building Futures program is the company's single largest volunteer event and provides backpacks filled with school supplies to less fortunate children. In 2009, through Building Futures, employees in 33 locations prepared and distributed over 10,000 backpacks to elementary and middle school children around the world. In addition, we assist schools with facility renovation and educational / career exploration. For almost a decade, Fluor's Building Futures initiative has been expanded and now reaches 14 countries.

Engineers Week
During Fluor's annual Engineers Week, Fluor employees reach thousands of students by participating in various activities. Employees visit schools in local communities to help children learn important aspects of science and to better understand the field of engineering. They also coordinate student activity days and career days at Fluor offices.

Habitat for Humanity
While many Fluor employees and offices around the world support various Habitat for Humanity projects, Fluor's South Carolina office has held a relationship with its local Habitat organization for more than a decade. December 2009 marked the completion of our employees' fifteenth Habitat House, involving more than 1,500 hours.
