Fluor's Presence in South Africa Began in 1960

Fluor's presence in South Africa dates back to 1960 with the award of the Sasol Styrene Butadiene project and the construction of the Caltex Refinery in Cape Town.

In the early 1980s, a permanent engineering office was established in Johannesburg. Today, the South African headquarters is based in Johannesburg (Sunninghill) and coordinates on-going operations in Durban, Sasolburg, and Secunda.

Fluor's client base has expanded to the mining and power sectors, and providing operations and maintenance services to clients in the major business segments served.

Over the years, Fluor South Africa has made substantial investments in developing in-country resources. Advantages include:

Fluor's training efforts began in the late 1970s, and in 1991, officially opened the Secunda Training Centre to provide unemployed and previously disadvantaged people with artisan training as an opportunity to acquire marketable trade skills. To date, Fluor has trained more than 30,000 people at this facility.
