Fluor, led by a commitment from chairman and CEO Alan Boeckmann, deployed an initial team of 500 personnel within 72 hours of FEMA’s request. Experts from all Fluor business lines were mobilized to establish the operations needed to meet the client’s challenge.
Fluor’s scope of work included conducting site assessments and inspections, staffing multiple FEMA Call Centers to interview displaced residents, designing and building sites for temporary housing, hauling and installing housing units, and performing operations and maintenance on them. As part of the client’s commitment to revitalizing the local economy, Fluor purchased materials and supplies from vendors throughout the Gulf Coast region. Fluor opened craft training centers throughout Louisiana to provide residents with the skills necessary to help rebuild their communities.
In just one year, Fluor installed 55,000 housing units to provide temporary homes for 160,000 displaced residents.
Fluor and its team achieved more than 9 million safe work hours during their year in Louisiana. Local subcontractors and vendors were used, with a majority of the subcontracted work awarded to small businesses. The thousands of Fluor personnel who worked on this project accomplished more than just housing installation; they helped rebuild lives and communities.
