Fluor has a long tradition of community service around the world. While Fluor's core business is centered on engineering, procurement, construction, maintenance, and project management, providing service to the communities in which Fluor employees work and live is Fluor's privilege.Community activities in which employees in the Philippines are involved include:
In 2002, the Philippines office joined other Fluor global offices to distribute backpacks to underprivileged primary school children in nearby communities. Since that time, the Building Futures program in the Philippines has distributed 4,600 backpacks.
Gawad Kalinga (GK)
Through the office's involvement in GK, Fluor is helping provide houses to shelter families at a community development center devoted to uplifting the lives of the poor. Since 2006 Fluor Cares volunteers have built 27 homes at 3 sites; 22 in GK Sta Rita, 3 in GK Sunshineville, and 2 in GK Maguikay (Cebu).
Since 2006, Fluor's office in the Philippines has been involved in three major sustainability initiatives by planting trees at three different locations. In 2006, employees planted some 2,000 seedlings at the La Mesa Watershed Rehabilitation Site. In 2008, volunteers supported Bukid Kabataan (BK) by planting sustainable crops of bananas and other fruit trees for the BK table and sale to the community. Since 2009, Fluor Cares volunteers have maintained 300 hardwood trees in the Mount Makiling forest reserve.
School Feeding Program
Fluor's office in Cebu launched its Community Relations initiative with a School Feeding Program to undernourished school children of Apas Elementary School. The office's commitment does not end with distributing morning snacks; the volunteers nurture the students by teaching them the value of food, and instilling in them the value of sharing and kindness. This program aims to establish good relationships with the children and the community.
