Fluor has assisted clients in the water resources area in all types of industries for more than 30 years. This service, as it relates to water and wastewater treatment systems, has encompassed activities such as design, construction, start-up, as well as operations and maintenance. Our current focus is to leverage this experience and capability to provide project development and financing support for major water and wastewater treatment facilities. We design wastewater treatment systems that produce treated effluent acceptable for discharge to municipal treatment works, for discharge to a body of water, or for reuse within the plant. Our design projects include a wastewater treatment system for Tenneco that produces a stream suitable for direct discharge, as well as water and wastewater facilities that allow Louisville Gas and Electric to comply with zero discharge guidelines at its multi-unit power station. We designed an onsite treatment approach for the Tooele U.S. Army Depot that enabled it to discharge effluent to city treatment facilities. For this client, we also prepared permit applications and led the permitting negotiations with the authorities. Fluor has been involved with desalination projects since the 1950s. We engineered and constructed the world's first large-scale desalter in Aruba. We have provided architectural, engineering and construction services for many industrial and municipal desalination plants throughout the world, including multi-stage flash (MSF) and reverse osmosis (RO) units to support major refinery projects for: ARAMCO Saudi Arabia; Pertamina, Indonesia; and ADNOC, Abu Dhabi. In recent years, Fluor has been involved in the development of: the 60 mgd Jeddah IV and 24 mgd Assir MSF plants in Saudi Arabia; the 30 mgd MSF plant at Jebel Ali in Dubai; the two 3 mgd MSF units for the Ruwais Utilities Project in Abu Dhabi; several smaller MSF units in Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and China; as well as the 12 mgd Minera Escondida plant in Chile. Fluor is a leader in providing expertise in design-build, public-private partnerships, and program management for large complex infrastructure projects.
