Fluor's support for education includes not only various forms of financial and volunteer assistance but also a variety of meaningful outreach activities.
“Fluor's involvement with target universities enables students to gain insight into the world of engineering. Through greater understanding, it also creates a bridge for them to join the engineering profession.”
Mike Piwetz, Fluor Engineering Executive; Houston, Texas

Founded by the National Society of Professional Engineers, National Engineers Week (NEW) increases public awareness and appreciation of the engineering profession. Fluor Corporation is a leader in this activity, annually sponsoring NEW and twice serving as national co-chair of the event. Fluor also introduced "Connecting the World to Engineering," a series of web-based forums and live teleconferences between engineering students and business and technical leaders.
Each year, teams of Fluor engineers plan NEW activities in locations throughout the world. To help mentor and cultivate the engineers of tomorrow, for example, Fluor engineers participate in the Discover Engineering program. Through this program, employees introduce engineering into the local schools, helping students and teachers discover the practical applications of math, science, and technology through hands-on activities. Fluor teams also participate in "Friendly Competitions" through which members test their creativity and engineering skills by competing against their colleagues on a specific design project. Students also participate or visit Fluor locations during the competitions.

Supporting higher education and investing in programs that develop a diverse and skilled workforce are important goals for Fluor. In the College Relations program, Fluor sponsors annual grants and scholarships at selected universities, with a focus on engineering, construction, and business programs. Through these partnerships, Fluor executive teams interact with the universities to prepare students for tomorrow's global and technical workforce.
Partner grants are also directed to these universities with funds supporting such initiatives as curriculum and department support, minority programs, lab upgrades, equipment and computer purchases, and faculty development. Fluor also sponsors student association programs, scholarships, and career center programs.

In local communities, Fluor supports programs and school partnerships that advance math/science education, teacher training, literacy, and economics education. For example:
- In Tennessee, Fluor created the Construction Education Partnership involving contractors at the site and students from local school districts. Fluor provided craft training modules, mentoring and career awareness programs and hosted field trips to jobsites.
- In Ilo, Peru, employees delivered backpacks filled with school supplies to the local school, San Geronimo, and saw the state of disrepair of the school. They proceeded to organize a project to build a new office, demolish a derelict building, and install a concrete games area and playground complete with activity center. Also the group cleaned up the access ways leaving the area ready for future addition of more classrooms.
- Partnering with a local elementary school, Manila employees established an E-Learning project. Fluor contributed PCs and the necessary labor to set up and network the computers.
- Employees in U.S. locations have volunteered their time to help with scoring and staffing MATHCOUNTS competitions, a program for junior high students. Employees have collected books for the Reading Foundation and participated with the Junior Achievement program supporting literacy and economics education.
