With Success Comes Responsibility

Fluor strives to become increasingly effective in performing its global responsibilities, proactively addressing many of the relevant and vital issues that confront today's world. From the workplace to the natural environment, from the corporate boardroom to the community school, Fluor Corporation and its people go beyond legal requirements and traditional practices to do business in a socially, economically, and environmentally responsible way. In doing so, we believe we will help benefit and sustain current and future generations.

Based upon a well-defined set of principles and practices, we seek to become a valued partner in the many nations and communities in which we operate.

For Example, We:

  • Lead our industry in combating the corruption that consumes more than 5 percent of the world's gross domestic product and robs local populations, particularly in developing countries, of critically needed resources — a practice that curbs economic growth and development.
  • Promote integrity, transparency, and accountability by fostering strong and independent Board-level oversight.
  • Use a global workforce and supplier network of diverse ideas, backgrounds and expertise.
  • Support, along with our employees, vital educational and other community institutions.
  • Rank among the safest companies in the industries in which we work, one result of our determination to minimize any negative impact to the environment or harm to employees, clients, or communities.
  • Train local citizens around the world - more than 250,000 thus far - to become skilled craftspeople, thus improving their job capabilities and strengthening the local economy.

In part due to our employees' hard work, dedication to ethics, and socially responsible behavior, FORTUNE magazine consistently ranks Fluor as one of America's, and the world's, most admired engineering and construction companies.

As this section of Fluor.com highlights, we are engaged in a variety of endeavors that give life to this philosophy. These activities are organized around the six categories shown below. In many instances, we develop and implement these approaches within the corporation. In others, we recommend to our clients solutions that enable them to optimize their global responsibility. Thus, while we may remain at a project site for only a few years, the positive influence of our work can last for decades.

As a leader in the global building and services marketplaces, we focus not only on such traditional measures of success as profitability but also on a series of broader measures that we refer to collectively as global responsibility. Simply put, this means doing the right thing to benefit our clients, shareholders, employees, suppliers, and others in the communities in which we work.

This philosophy of 'doing the right thing' is hardly new at Fluor. For almost a century, those who founded and built what is now Fluor Corporation have evidenced a strong social consciousness which helps explain the company's duration and success.
