Abstract

For more than 60 years, Fluor’s rigging team has been at the forefront of the industry in providing safe and efficient transport and lifting of large, heavy, critical or sensitive plant equipment. Clients rely on Fluor to assist in analyzing, planning, transporting, and erecting equipment, especially when complex technical challenges are involved. Fluor seeks to improve methods and efficiency to avoid unexpected problems and costly delays.

Early in a project, rigging experts review plot plans and equipment design to confirm that efficient transportation and safe installation are feasible. During the design phase of a project, rigging engineers review the constructability of the plot plan and equipment layout to help improve efficiency in construction and maintenance. They also provide rigging feasibility studies to determine the most economical size of skids/modules and equipment that can be delivered and installed at the site and to determine the number and size of cranes required to efficiently construct the project. Fluor's rigging experts can design lifting lugs and rigging gear, prepare rigging procedures and drawings, and then monitor the rigging operations in the field. Drawing upon years of experience, the rigging team identifies and analyzes available options for handling and installing all the skids/modules and equipment on the project.

Safety remains as the first consideration in all operations, and rigging engineers' skills and tools are applied to confirm that all operations are carried out with the least amount of risk and exposure to personnel and to Clients. To further confirm the safety and consistency of all rigging operations, Fluor maintains and implements specific written requirements and review procedures for both critical and non-critical lifts.
