Innovating the World’s Most Challenging Projects

For more than a century, Fluor has created innovative solutions to real problems facing our Clients and our industry. Today’s Fourth Industrial Revolution requires the engineering, procurement and construction industry to evolve at an unprecedented pace. With projects larger and more complex than ever before, innovation is not optional; it’s a mindset our employees embrace to deliver results to customers safely, on schedule and within budget.

Fluor was recently named Fiatech’s Celebration of Engineering and Technology Innovation (CETI) award winner for the company’s integrated scaffolding solution in the scenario-based project planning category. In 2015, the Edison AwardsTM selected Fluor’s 3rd Gen Modular ExecutionSM as the Bronze Award winner for innovation in the energy and sustainability category.

From Concept to Implementation

Fluor empowers its employees to develop new technology, work processes and ways to design, execute and build capital projects. With an active innovation internal community and multiple collaborative partnerships in place, Fluor invests in ideas that can significantly improve project execution and benefit projects in multiple business sectors.

One way we invest is through our annual Innovation Unwrapped experience that brings together Fluor's creative minds from around the world to develop solutions for Client and industry challenges.

Beginning with idea generation and exposure to the latest technologies and trends, teams are assigned challenges identified by our Clients and tasked with developing an implementable solution and supporting business case.

Teams who develop ideas that significantly reduce cost, improve schedule, quality or safety performance have the opportunity to pitch their solutions to Fluor executive leaders and Client counterparts, with the goal of receiving funding to implement their ideas.

Innovation Unwrapped teams have researched and implemented solutions such as:

  • Making sites safer using Safety PinSM, a comprehensive safety planning application designed to reduce incidents on job sites and improve safety planning
  • Optimizing project data management and productivity through a voice-enabled app that allows construction workers to find information and materials faster, thereby increasing time on tools
  • Digitizing our Clients’ facilities by eliminating paper-based drawings and deliverables, as well as performing remote inspections and using mobile solutions in the field to improve the quality and shorten the schedule of projects
  • Improving project predictability by investing in data analytics to improve cost and schedule forecasting and using virtual reality for HSE training

Fluor was recognized by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and was awarded the 2017 Silver Anvil award for the Innovation Unwrapped Program in the Category of Events and Observances - More Than Seven Days.
